Using and Getting the Most from Tremco Tremsil 600 Sealant

Tremsil 600 Sealant is ideal for a variety of in-plant glazing sealant uses including back-bedding, cap, heel and toe beads and sash joints. It works with most porous and non-porous materials, adheres to a variety of materials including aluminum, glass, plastics and wood. It can be applied with automated glazing equipment, so it’s ideal for residential and commercial applications. And that’s not all.

Before You Apply Tremsil 600 Silicone Sealant

Tremco’s Tremsil 600 has a neutral cure, is medium modulus and forms a skin quickly to form a flexible rubber when it is exposed to the moisture in the air. It adheres to most common materials such as aluminum, stainless steel and other metals as well as glass, plastics, PVC, wood, brick, concrete and painted surfaces. Tremsil 600 is available in white, black, clear, buff and anodized aluminum and in 300 ml cartridges, 600 ml sausages, 17 L pails and 189 L (50 gallon) drums, so it’s easy to get exactly what you need for your next project.

Before applying Tremsil 600 with conventional or automated caulking equipment, you’ll need to prepare the surface. First, make sure everything has been installed properly. Sashes, hinges and other features should be fully adjusted and solid. You may also need to use a wire brush, grinder, sandblaster or solvent to remove any debris or contamination. You can then coat the joint with primer. However, you should always do a field test prior to doing the installation to ensure the sealant will adhere properly.

You’ll then need to install a joint backing such as closed cell polyethylene backer rods to control the depth of the sealant. If there isn’t enough room, however, you’ll need to use an adhesive backed polyethylene tape to prevent three-sided adhesion. Then, you’ll need to make sure everything is dry and solid before applying Tremsil 600 Silicone Sealant.

Applying Tremsil 600 Silicone Sealant From Tremco

Tremco’s Tremsil 600 Sealant will work with almost any joint that is four times the width of the anticipated movement and at least 1/4″ wide. With joints ranging in size from 1/4″ to 1/2″, the depth of the sealant bead should be equal to its width. Joints larger than 1/2″ should have a depth equal to half its width. However, the joint size should never be less than 1/4″ x 1/4″. To use Tremsil 600, apply an even bead and use dry tooling to make sure the sealant adheres properly to both surfaces. (You’ll have 8 – 10 minutes to tool the sealant before it forms a skin. It’s tack-free in less than two hours and is cured through in seven days or less depending on temperature and humidity.)

Tremsil 600 Sealant from Tremco shouldn’t be used on damp or contaminated surfaces. You should also avoid using it on joints that will be continuously immersed in water. Lastly, like most sealants, this product should only be applied in a well ventilated area.
